A 26 year old from Foxboro, North Carolina died Nov. 17 when his car slammed into the rear of a tractor trailer on I-77 that had run out of fuel and was sitting in the middle of the highway.

The man was a graduate of the local Bishop Feehan High School, and also was a graduate of High Point University.

The North Carolina State Police are continuing to investigate this tragic crash, and charges may be filed in the future.

Our View

As Virginia and North Carolina truck accident attorneys, our hearts go out to the family of this young man whose life was lost in a preventable accident.

The driver of the truck knew that he was running low on fuel, and yet he was still driving on I-77 in the center lane. Stalling a large truck in the middle of an interstate is extremely dangerous, and having enough fuel in the truck to get it to safety is something that the truck driver should have had in mind.

Fortunately, there are ways that the grieving family can obtain compensation for their suffering and to replace the young man’s lost income. By filing a wrongful death lawsuit in North Carolina, they could receive a large settlement or verdict that will help them to get on with their lives.

We have handled tragic truck crashes where the truck driver was clearly negligent, and essentially ran over our clients’ car. That particular case led to a $5.5 million settlement. If the family of the young man in this truck accident speaks to a personal injury attorney, they would get a better idea if their case could result in a successful settlement.
