Mopeds have become a common form of transportation among the streets of towns such as Kitty Hawk, Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. Mopeds are a great economical and fun form of transportation. They are easy to maneuver and operate on the congested summer streets in the Outer Banks. Many locals own them and they can also be purchased or rented on the island.

The mopeds are under 50cc’s and do not require a drivers license or insurance to operate. For many people who have had previous drinking and driving infractions these vehicles provide reliable transportation. Speeds are limited to less than 35 mph which can cause a problem when sharing the roadway with licensed vehicles in areas where the speed limit exceeds 35 mph. Their visual profile is smaller compared even to a motorcycle. Bright colored clothing or reflective gear and a helmet are an important part of staying safe while operating these types of vehicles.

Moped operators do not fare well in car versus moped accidents. Head injury, cervical spine injury, broken limbs and eternal organ damage are common results of accidents involving mopeds. If you have been involved in an accident while operating a moped and have suffered similar injuries please contact us for information about your rights.
