One woman was killed and two others were injured in a car accident on 1-95.

The car accident occurred about a mile north of the Godwin-Falcon Road exit in Cumberland County, North Carolina (NC). A group of people were traveling from New Jersey to South Carolina (SC) when their car veered off the right shoulder. The driver over-corrected causing the car to roll several times. Lakisha Odom was thrown from the vehicle. The driver and another passenger were trapped inside.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol transported the driver and one passenger to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Tragically, Lakisha Odom died at the scene of the car accident. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Odom was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

This tragic accident proves how dangerous over-correcting can be. It is extremely easy to lose control of a car if you have over-corrected the steering wheel. This can cause the car to flip over, leave the roadway, or hit another vehicle. Several head-on collisions are caused by drivers over-correcting their vehicles.

If you are driving and your car veers off the road the first step is to remain calm. Over-correcting is easily caused by driver panic. Once the car has left the road, ease off of the gas pedal and slowly guide the car back on to the roadway. Do not brake suddenly as this can also cause you to lose control of the car. Do not jerk the steering wheel unless you absolutely have too.

LaKeisha Odom was my friend and sorority sister. She is loved by many and will be remembered as one of the sweetest people anyone could meet. She was always there for her family, sisters, and friends. We will truly miss her...

LaKeisha may you rest in peace...and I will forever thank God for allowing me to know you.
