The 20-year-old driver of a car decided to operate the vehicle recklessly resulting in a horrific crash in Wendell, North Carolina (NC). The driver was reportedly traveling at over 100 MPH just before the wreck, according to the NC State Police.

Unfortunately, the driver’s reckless behavior resulted in the death of both the driver and a passenger named Randy William Jernigan.

Police said that the driver was going too fast into a turn, as he went north on Corbin Road, near Morphus Bridge Road. His Ford Crown Victoria veered off the left side of the road, and he over corrected and the car ran off the right side.

The vehicle then spun out of control as it flew off two embankments. It flew across a driveway and smashed into a tree in midair. There were skid marks on 270 feet of the roadway, and the car traveled 130 more feet off the road, before it came to a stop in a group of pine trees.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Jernigan family. Losing a loved one is always gut-wrenching, but the pain is made even worse when the loss is sudden and totally unexpected. It is also has be infuriating to know that this accident may have been prevented, if only the driver was not operating the vehicle at such a high rate of speed.
