Halley Sterling, an eighth grader at Powdersville Middle School tragically died in a car accident after Kimberly Booker (the driver) lost control of her vehicle on Interstate 85 (I-85) and wound up colliding with a bridge.

My deepest condolences go out to Halleys friends and family. Losing a loved one is never easy, but its even worse when someone at such a young age is taken from us too soon.

Sterlings death is the fifth this year for the District 1 school system in South Carolina (SC). Theyve suffered more than a dozen deaths in the past three years, according to the independentmail.com. The schools include Wren High School, Hunt Meadows Elementary, Powdersville Elementary, etc.

Back in October, Gretchen Randall (a teachers assistant at Hunt Meadows Elementary) was killed after being hit by a Toyota 4Runner while walking to her car.

Its unbelievable the number of sad events that have happened in the Wren and Powdersville community, said Wayne Fowler, superintendent of District 1.

My sympathies go out to the teachers, faculty, and students in District 1. Its terrible to lose so many people in such tragic circumstances.
