First responder rescue crews in Pitt County were busy Monday afternoon after a three car crash sent eight people to the hospital. It happened around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 264A and Moye Turnage Road, outside of Farmville, North Carolina (NC).
State Troopers that were on the scene report that the accident is still under investigation to determine exactly how the crash occurred. Evidently, there were two stop signs at the intersection that were torn down, and one of the vehicles involved received extensive front-end damage causing its air bag top be deployed.
Several of the accident victims were taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital after receiving serious injuries from the crash. In an effort to clean up after the wreck both lanes of U.S. 264A were shut down for more than an hour as crews worked to clear the highway of crash debris.
As a follow up to the three car accident officials have blamed a single driver as being responsible for the crash. Police say that sixteen year old Justin Sutton will be charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain lane control.
There were eight people involved that went to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Sutton was carrying five passengers in his own car at the time of the crash. All victims involved have been treated and will be released. There were no critical injuries sustained.
