A family from Missouri had been saving money for months to take their daughters to Disney World, but a tragic car crash during the vacation killed the parents and seriously injured their daughters in Florida.

The parents had just wrapped up a visit to Disney World and were driving with their 13 year old and 8 year old daughters to a beach near Orlando when tragedy struck.

The Florida State Police reported that a car driving in the other direction on I-4 drifted into their lane, forcing the family’s car to veer off the road and slam into a tree.

The police continue to investigate the crash.

Our View

Our personal injury attorneys are particularly alarmed at the rash of distracted driving deaths that occur on American roads each year. While we do not know the exact reason that driver veered into that family’s lane, we can be sure that he was somehow distracted.

Two of our car accident attorneys recently spoke to 600 Jamestown VA high school students to talk about the dangers of distracted driving. Their presentation included videos of families who had suffered injuries and deaths due to distracted drivers. As the presentation noted, the most common reasons for distracted driving are texting or talking on a phone, eating and driving, putting on make up and talking to passengers.

If you are in an accident and are distracted and hurt someone, you also can be on the hook for millions of dollars in damages in a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit. Insurance does not always cover the entire settlement or judgment amount, so you have to pay out hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars.
