It took 22 firefighters nearly 20 minutes this Saturday morning to free three people trapped in a vehicle after a collision on the inner loop of I-485. According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, a Kia Sorento SUV hit a guardrail between South Tryon Street and Arrowood Road at about 7 a.m.

The vehicle overturned several times, trapping three of the four occupants inside. All four were taken to Carolinas Medical Center, one with life-threatening injuries. The Highway Patrol is investigating.
