19 year-old Joseph Williams is fighting for his life after losing his leg from a three car accident. Williams was changing his tire by the roadside around 8:PM on May 2, 2009 when a car driven by Dominick Moore struck his car pinning Williams against a guardrail. After the initial collision a third car which was trying to avoid the crash flipped over the same guardrail. Paramedics took Williams to Moses Cone Hospital where he had surgery because he had lost a portion of his leg. The other two drivers were also taken to the hospital, but there is no report on their condition. There are no reports as to what caused this accident.

Changing a tire by the roadside can be very dangerous. If you have a flat tire on a busy road try to pull over as far as possible or pull into a driveway or parking lot. Don’t worry about ruining the tire or rim, your life is worth much more than the cost of replacing these items. If this is not an option, it may be best to call a tow company for help. Keeping road flares or reflective markers in your trunk is a wise idea so that oncoming traffic can plainly see you on the roadside.
