We all love to go to festivals and I don’t think anyone has more fun than children at a fair. It is hard to even keep up with your son or daughter when there are dozens of exciting things to be had for them. Face painting is a very popular activity for children and a booth is usually provided at just about every fair. But before you let your son or daughter run to the booth to be painted please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the recent recall released by the Food and Drug Administration. The Oriental Trading, Co. who is the distributer of the water-based paints labeled “face paints” have sold the tainted paints nationwide. Fun Express, Inc. a subsidiary of The Oriental Trading, Co. has issued a voluntary recall of the face paints manufactured by the Shanghai Color Art Stationery Company Limited based in Shanghai, China.

A recent incident at an event is what sparked the recall. Children who were painted with the product had adverse reactions including rashes, itchiness, burning sensation, and swelling where the face paints were applied. The colors blue, purple, red, orange and green are the paints that are listed as tainted. The FDA website gives product codes and item numbers for this specific recall, click here for specific information regarding the products.

Whereas, the artists who provide face painting for children would not knowingly use a tainted product, it is possible that they may not have heard about the recall. If your son or daughter chooses to participate in face painting ask the artist about paint that they use. This simple precaution can eliminate an injury to your child at an event where they would otherwise enjoy.
