Magnetic toys were recalled by Mattel because they pose a risk to children who may swallow them. The product recall is for over 9 million toys in the United States. They include some Polly Pocket toys, Batman toys, Barbie toys, and Doggie Day Care toys.

“Very powerful magnets, when more than one is swallowed, may stick to each other and cause more severe problems with the intestines,” said Dr. Robert J. Geller, associate professor of pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and director of the Georgia Poison Center.

Parents are urged to take the recalled toys away from their children and contact Mattel for a replacement. Mattel is changing the way it makes these toys in order to make them safer for children.
