A 22-month-old toddler was killed in California when he was strangled by a toy box attached to his bed. The death prompted a recall of 9,350 beds. The recalled beds are the LaJolla Boat Bed and the Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle Beds.

The CPSC said the supports fail to prevent the lid from closing too quickly, posing an entrapment and strangulation hazard to children. The federal agency said it received one report of the death of a 22-month-old boy from Roseville, Calif., who was strangled when the lid of the chest fell on the back of his head and trapped his neck on the edge.

The beds were sold at Costco stores around the country and online from January 2006 to May 2008. They retailed for $700 and $1400. The company is offering a free repair kit for the beds. Consumers can find more details about the recall here http://www.baysidefurnishings.com/recalls.html.
