There has been a recent environmental health warning to the local swimming waters in the Belhaven area. According to health officials there are high levels of bacteria present. This has prompted them to issue a swim advisory for waters in the surrounding areas.

Within the sound side access at the East Main Street and Tooley Street intersection in Belhaven, North Carolina (N.C.) is where tests showed the bacteria level to be much higher than regulations would allow. This would not be good for folks to swim in especially younger children could have a more severe reaction to the bacteria.

The following brief video shows just exactly how bacteria can cause harm to your health and your body:

It is advised that people should not swim or play in the water because it could cause a likelihood of gastrointestinal illness or skin infections. Although the bacterium is present in at certain places, officials say this does not affect the entire Belhaven area.
