The Fisher-Rex Sandwich Co based in Raleigh, North Carolina (NC) has issued a recall for the pre-packaged sandwich products.

The sandwiches were tested by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and traces of Listeria where found in several of the products. The Fisher-Rex Sandwich Co. is offering a voluntary recall on any product that has a six-digit produce code beginning in 01. The sandwiches are sold in gas stations and convenience stores throughout North Carolina (NC), South Carolina (SC) and Virginia (VA).

So far no illnesses have been reported. However, some people may begin to report illnesses if the products are not disposed of properly.

Listeria is a type of bacteria that causes the listeriosis virus. Listeriosis virus is a rare food-borne illness that can negatively affect children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems. If the virus enters the nervous system is can cause meningitis. Meningitis can be fatal.

The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as well as the Fisher-Rex Sandwich Co. are asking anyone in possession of these pre-packaged foods to throw them away immediately. If you think you may have already consumed the sandwich, seek medical attention. The common symptoms for Listeria include headaches and a fever.
