Pedestrian killed in Fayetteville Accident

Comments Off

Last Saturday, the Fayetteville police were called to what appeared to be a hit and run incident around 4am. The pedestrian was reported as being struck by the vehicle along Sycamore Dairy Road near the McDonalds on Bragg Boulevard.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities say they found a person lying in the roadway. The victim was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where they later died. Police have not released the person’s identity at the time of this writing.

Although police are not releasing the identity of driver that struck the pedestrian, they did say the driver was traveling in the direction of Fort Bragg. The car was stopped a few blocks away from the location of the accident. Officials are investigating whether it was a hit-and-run or if the driver even knew they hit someone.

Most pedestrians are struck by the front of a passenger vehicle. The initial contacts are with the vehicle bumper and/or the front edge of the hood, depending on the shape of the vehicle structure. When pedestrians are struck by taller vehicles such as SUV’s or pickup trucks, the initial contacts are higher on the body.

In an NHTSA pedestrian accident study, 40 percent of pedestrian injuries resulted from contact with the vehicle, 32 percent resulted from contact with the ground, and 26 percent resulted from contact with unknown objects.
