A car was hit by a dump truck after it tried to cross an intersection of N.C. 11. The trucking accident happened on Monday afternoon. The accident happened near Ayden at Dennis McLawhorn Road. The passenger side of the car was hit by the dump truck.

The truck and the Toyota Camry came to rest on the highway’s western shoulder. Official details were unavailable this afternoon.

The driver of the Camry was believed to have been the sole occupant. Witnesses said he was airlifted by a Pitt County Memorial Hospital EastCare helicopter.

The police are still investigating the accident and no charges or citations have been issued. The condition of the driver of the car is unknown. Traffic in the area was delayed while the accident was investigated and the scene was cleared.
