Kenly, NC Highway Patrol Arrest Ohio Man for Hauling Explosives in Stolen Truck

Comments Off

Just outside of Kenly, North Carolina, state troopers arrested an Ohio man on Friday driving a stolen big rig. Authorities say, he stole a tractor-trailer carrying ammonium nitrate, a key ingredient in fertilizer that can also be used as an explosive.

A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper stopped the truck at the Flying J gas station and truck stop off Interstate 95 in Kenly.

The perpetrator of the incident was Brian Rutledge, 46, of Carrolton, Ohio. He was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. Rutledge was in the Johnston County jail Monday afternoon under a $20,000 secured bond.

According to investigators the truck was stolen in Orville, Ohio, and that Rutledge knew what was in it. The authorities looking into this crime are still unsure what he was going to do
