When we use a product, we expect it to work and to be reasonably safe. If a product turns out to be defective, it can be a distressing realization, along with possibly suffering a serious personal injury from the defect.

Unfortunately, many products turn out to be defective and potentially dangerous. A recent example is from a line of folding bicycles manufactured by West Marine Company. The Consumer Product and Safety Commission issued a recall for these folding bicycles. Consumers were warned to “stop using this product unless otherwise instructed.”

The folding bicycles have a potential for breaking and pose a falling hazard to the rider.

The recall involves the Jetty Express 2 and the Port Runner 2 models, designed for use in and around docks and marines.

As described by the CPSC: “The Jetty Express 2 has a blue and white frame and folds at a hinge in the middle. Jetty Express 2 is printed on the bike’s frame. The Port Runner 2 has a red frame and folds at a hinge in the middle. Port Runner 2 is printed on the bike’s frame.”

If you or a loved one was riding this type of bike and it suddenly broke, you may have grounds to take legal action against the manufacturer. Obviously, your legal options depend on the facts surrounding your injury. If your bicycle broke and you only suffered a few scrapes from a fall, you probably don’t need to hire a lawyer to handle a claim. However, if you or a loved one suffered a serious injury like a broken leg, torn knee ligament, torn back muscle, etc. you should consider speaking to an attorney.
