A 79 year old woman from Columbia in South America was enjoying a vacation in North Carolina in late August when she was killed in Charlotte by a drunk driver with several DUI convictions.

The elderly woman from South America was in a car with three other family members when the drunk driver’s vehicle flew over the median and slammed into their car in Charlotte.

The victim had just seen Niagara Falls in New York and was visiting family in the area when the tragedy occurred.

The drunk driver has been charged with DWI and felony death by motor vehicle. She was convicted of DUI in North and South Carolina in 2014.

The family told the press that their deceased relative was a self made woman with a third grade education but had her own clothing design business, and also work with homeless girls in Bogota Columbia.

Our View

Our personal injury attorneys are both saddened and angered by this drunk driving case. It is our hope that the drunk driver is sentenced to a long term in prison. Also, the family of this elderly woman should file a wrongful death lawsuit and sue this drunk driver for every dime she has.

Our personal injury attorneys handled a drunk driving case in Virginia in 2015 where the victim survived, but was terribly maimed by a very drunk driver. The case ended in a $3.5 million verdict, and that money will be used to help her to recover and to pay for her lost wages.
