Yanceyville, North Carolina NC- Woman Killed By Motorist While Walking On Highway

Comments Off

A woman was killed on the Danville bypass in North Carolina NC early this morning. The woman has been identified as Debra Saunders Tuggle, a resident of Yanceyville, North Carolina NC.

Early investigations by the North Carolina NC state police department indicated that Debra Saunders Tuggle had been headed north on foot on US highway 29 when she was struck and killed by another motorist. Mrs. Saunders Tuggle’s car was off the roadway and she had been returning to the highway also known as the Danville bypass when she was struck. Initial reports from the North Carolina NC police department are unclear as to whether Mrs. Saunders Tuggle had pulled her car off the road willingly or had run off the roadway on accident.

The vehicle that struck Mrs. Saunders Tuggle, a 1997 Honda Accord, was driven by George Keen. A statement from George Keen was taken by the North Carolina NC state police department and no reports have been released yet to indicate alcohol or drug abuse were a factor in the car accident. Mrs. Saunders Tuggle was pronounced dead on the scene by the North Carolina NC state police and medical workers.

While these types of car accidents are not that common, where one person on foot is hit by a motorist on a roadway, unfortunately they do happen and often result in death. Such is as the case with Mrs. Saunders Tuggle. The North Carolina NC state police department in the upcoming weeks will continue to investigate the car accident that led to the death of Mrs. Saunders Tuggle as well as the state of mind of the motorist, George Keen.

Sadly, while not all pedestrian accidents such as the case of Mrs. Saunders Tuggle can be avoided, most can be. By taking proper precautions such as wearing brightly colored clothing while walking on a motorist street, paying special attention to oncoming vehicles, and walking towards the flow of traffic you can drastically reduce your chances of being in a pedestrian accident.
