Two Triad counties in North Carolina – Wake and Guilford – were among the top five for DWI arrests during the holidays, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

During the Booze It and Lose It Campaign organized by the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, police arrested 2664 impaired drivers in the state. More than 2400 were arrested for DWI, and 264 were related to drugs.

Wake County had 247 arrests, and Guilford County had 177. For all of 2016, 359 people died in the state due to drunk driving. Although tis is a 17% drop from 2015, the state is still making aggressive efforts to reduce drunk driving accidents.

Our View

Our drunk driving attorneys are glad that North Carolina is making strong efforts to reduce drunk driving around the holidays and year round. As North Carolina personal injury attorneys, we have represented many people injured by drunk drivers. We also have represented many grieving families whose loved one was killed by a drunk driver.

Even relatively minor crashes involving alcohol can leave victims with serious injuries. We represented a client in Norfolk, Virginia wh was simply walking on the sidewalk to the gym. A drunk driver drove onto the sidewalk and caused him serious leg injuries.

Our client had to have four separate surgeries on his leg. The drunk driver only had $100,000 of liability insurance, so we obtained additional coverage from our client’s underinsured and unisured coverage, which did not cause their insurance rates to increease. We were able to get a $100,000 settlement for our injured client.
