The North Carolina Highway Patrol issues a warning for motorists to slow down

Comments Off

With Memorial Day weekend just a couple of days away the North Carolina Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to drive carefully and to slow down. Increased patrols will be the activity along all major four-lane highways and interstates for the holiday weekend. As the traffic increases for holiday activities so does the risk of accidents. The North Carolina Highway Patrol’s website states, “The North Carolina State Highway Patrol’s primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible.”

“Operation C.A.R.E.” and “Click-it or Ticket” organizations will also join forces with the Highway Patrol to educate the public and will provide enforcement all across the nation. “Click-it or Ticket” will have seatbelt checkpoints and will be giving citations for those who are not wearing seatbelt in a vehicle. “Operation C.A.R.E.” (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) is an organization of State Law Enforcement Agencies who work together nationwide to educate the public on traffic safety and to reduce the human suffering on highways with an emphasis on the holidays in particular.

According to the statistics sited by Commander Colonel Walter J. Wilson Jr. of the North Carolina Highway Patrol in 2008 the department “arrested 23,821 people for driving while impaired, seized $10 million worth of drugs, investigated 1,286 fatalities and issued 333,760 citations for speeding on North Carolina highways.”

Keeping mindful of the warning made by the Highway Patrol will help you stay safe this holiday. Enjoying this holiday weekend means taking precautions and arriving at your destination unharmed.
