Many people think a rear end car accident, also referred to a “fender bender,” isn’t that serious. They say, “Sure, you might have a damaged fender and maybe a sore neck, but it’s really not that bad.” This is not always the case. In fact, many rear end car accidents lead to very serious injuries.

For example, a driver was involved in a rear end car accident and they suffered a traumatic brain injury, cervical and lumbar strains, right shoulder rotator cuff syndrome, and a herniated disc. The head injury caused problems with mental cognition, memory loss, and post-traumatic stress headaches.

As you can tell, this rear end car accident had a major effect on the victim’s quality of life. Fortunately, the victim consulted with a personal injury lawyer and a settlement was reached for $1.75 million, according to Virginia Lawyers Weekly. This will help cover the $77,000 in medical bills, lost wages, and a lifetime of future care.

Our firm handled a similar rear end car accident. We represented a 28 year-old member of the United States Navy who was a passenger in a fellow worker’s pickup truck. The truck was rear-ended with sufficient force to cause our client’s head to break out the rear window of the truck. Fortunately, our client was able to avoid suffering a serious head injury, but did suffer from low back pain. The insurance company only offered $6,500 during settlement discussions. We took the case to trial and the jury awarded our client $75,000. We also represented and settled injury cases for passengers hurt when the car was rear ended by a drunk driver right on a quiet Northern Virginia residential street.

These injuries illustrate that virtually any type of car accident can have serious consequences that adversely affect your quality of life.
