Police Charge One of Their Own with DWI in Durham, North Carolina (NC)

Comments Off

While it is definitely something you don’t here very much, but the Durham police recently arrested an off-duty North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper charging him with Driving While Impaired (DWI).

The off-duty NC state trooper, John C. Fogg, had a blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit at .17, according to highway patrol spokesman Capt. Everett Clendenin.

The Durham officers arrested Fogg, 40, who was involved in a crash with another car while driving his personal vehicle. There were no other details released about the other vehicle.

According to police, trooper Fogg cooperated with officers. Highway Patrol Col. Walter Wilson Jr. ordered an internal investigation into the matter and ordered Fogg relieved of his duties as a state trooper pending the outcome of the internal investigation. Trooper Fogg was assigned to Wilson County and was sworn in as a trooper in August 2007.

This is an important lesson for us to realize that the act of drinking while driving crosses all types and classes of people. It’s paramount that we should drive defensively, paying close attention to all road hazards and of course, never drink while driving. If you do decide to celebrate or have an alcoholic beverage for recreation and relaxation, then make sure you have either a designated driver or you are prepared to stay put until the effects of the alcohol is completely worn off.
