Pedestrian Hit and Killed in Charlotte, North Carolina

Comments Off

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed while walking in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC) on Monday night.

According to the Charlotte Police Department, the pedestrian was walking on Brookshire Boulevard when they were struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle initially left the scene, but returned shortly after and called the police. Unfortunately, the pedestrian died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

The Charlotte Police Department told reporters that the driver of the vehicle was not sure at first what they had struck and returned immediately to the scene, but no reports have been made yet if any charges will be filed.

Sadly, pedestrian deaths are a far too common occurrence in North Carolina (NC). Roadways, especially in highly traffic areas like Charlotte, provide dangerous conditions for pedestrians on foot.

This is especially true at night, where a majority of pedestrian accidents take place. More often then not these accidents are a result of the driver not seeing the pedestrian until it is too late. If you must walk on a roadway at night be sure to take measures to protect yourself from being involved in an accident. Wear bright or reflective clothing that will help drivers make you out on the roadway. Also, try to remain on the sidewalks and crosswalks and off the actual roadway as much as possible. While it’s not always feasible to stay off the roadway, the less time you spend on it will significantly reduce your chances of being in an accident.
