Police stated this week that a three year-old boy died from injuries that he received in a Charlotte, North Carolina (NC) crash that killed his mother and injured his brother the day before.

The three-year old died Sept. 9 at a local hospital, and his mother died the day before.

The crash happened at 9 am on Sept. 9 at Independence and Fugate in Charlotte.

Police stated that the woman was sitting in her Volvo at a traffic light, when a Toyota RAV4 veered across several lanes of traffic and slammed into the driver’s side of the Volvo.

The woman died at the scene, and her two sons were taken to the hospital, one of which died later.

Police have not released any information about the extent of injuries to the children, but both were in child restraints in the rear of the car.

The driver of the RAV4 was arrested at the crime scene and was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, and also open container after consuming alcohol. Driver fatigue also seems to contribute to the crash.

The driver is being held on a $100,000 bond.

After the child died, the police stated that they would seek another misdemeanor death by vehicle charge in this case.

Drinking and driving is extremely dangerous, and it is a tragedy that once again lives have been needlessly lost to apparent drunk driving. We extend our condolences to the family of the victims.
