Head-On Accident Kills Two in North Carolina

Comments Off

Two drivers died on Dec. 1 in a head one, three car accident in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

The three vehicle crash with fatalities happened near Puckett Lane in front of the Log Cabin Country Store in Southern Pines.

The state police reported that a Chevy pickup truck was going south on the highway when it crossed the center line and slammed into a Jeep Wrangler. A Honda CRV also was hit by the Chevy truck.

The driver that crossed the center line died on the way to the hospital, and the driver of the Jeep died at the scene. The driver of the Honda was not seriously injured.

Our View

The majority of head on car accidents in North Carolina happen on two way highways, where high speeds and no median can increase the chances of serious injury or death. Because both cars are traveling at similar speed in opposite directions, the force of impact is doubled. This greatly increases the chances of very serious injury or death.

Our personal injury and wrongful death North Carolina lawyers have seen these types of accidents happen for the following reasons:

  • Distracted driving
  • Speeding
  • Driver inattention
  • Driver fatigue

While head on crashes are relatively rare and are only 2% of all vehicle accidents, one out of 10 traffic crash victims dies in these terrible accidents.

In a North Carolina head on car accident where the driver that caused the accident died, the family of the other deceased person still can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the estate of the other deceased driver. That driver’s insurance company also could be required to pay the other family a large settlement.

In a car accident where the victim died in such a violent fashion due to the negligence of another driver, the settlement could be large, such as this $1 million Virgina Beach car accident settlement we handled.
