Car Accident in Wilmington, North Carolina Results in One Fatality

Comments Off

A woman was killed in a car accident involving an SUV in Wilmington, North Carolina (NC).

According to the Wilmington Police Department the woman, originally from New Hanover County, was traveling on Oleander Drive in a Dodge Neon when she was struck by an SUV.

The driver and passenger of the SUV suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries from the car accident. The woman was taken to a local Wilmington Hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

Tragically, car accidents involving SUVs often end in fatalities. Sport Utility Vehicles can do severe damage to both other cars and other drivers when they are involved in car accidents. My colleague, Richard Shapiro, recently wrote an article about a young child that was fatally struck by an SUV while attempting to exit a school bus in Raleigh, North Carolina (NC). Both of these cases are proof that Sport Utility Vehicles can be a hazard on the road if driven incorrectly.

JDPower.com offers several tips for safely driving an SUV that could help you avoid car accidents like these. Be sure to always maintain a safe speed and ease in to turns. While this is important in any vehicle, it is extremely important in an SUV. SUV vehicles can be top heavy and may flip over easily if turns are taken too sharply. Allow more distance for breaking then you would in a smaller vehicle because of the size and weight of an SUV, they can take longer to come to a complete stop. Also, be cautious of the SUV’s tire pressure. SUVs are prone to flipping over and maintaining proper tire pressure can help prevent that.
