The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported a fatal collision that killed two children and injured several others on Oct. 31 in Robeson, County, North Carolina.

The fatal North Carolina car accident happened at 9:13 PM on NC 20 outside St. Pauls.

The highway patrol stated that four cars were going east on NC 20, when three of them began to slow down. One car did not, and it hit the car that was traveling in front, which pushed that car into traffic going the opposite direction. That car went across the center line and slammed into another vehicle going west head-on.

Two children in the westbound car died in the accident. They were seven and 10 years old. Two others in that vehicle were seriously injured.

The driver of the eastbound car that caused the accident has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Our View

Our North Carolina car accident attorneys send condolences to the families of the deceased children in this terrible accident. Across North Carolina, 634 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the first half of 2015, compared to 531 the year before.

According to the Charlotte Department of Transportation, accidents have been increasing across the city and state for the last few years. The agency states that gas prices have dropped into the $2 per gallon range, which is sending more people onto the roads for longer trips. The economy is getting stronger so more people are driving, and distracted driving is probably having an effect too.

As North Carolina personal injury attorneys, we want to remind North Carolina drivers to never drive when distracted. Cell phones should be put away and should only be used for an emergency when the vehicle is not in motion.

If you are sleepy, pull off the road; being drowsy increases your chances of an accident by 400%.

Also, limit the number of passengers in your vehicle, as they also can be a distraction.

Inattention to driving often has deadly consequences that can lead to years in jail for the responsible driver. These terrible accidents also can result in a personal injury lawsuit to be filed against the driver. Our Virgina and North Carolina personal injury attorneys successfully negotiated a $1 million Virginia Beach car accident settlement where a driver failed to yield right of way on a 45 MPH street.

The violent crash led to our client suffering a displaced closed intraarticular right calcaneus fracture, a left supracondylar femur fracture, a left open ankle fracture bimalleolar and other related orthopedic care.

The bottom line is that being distracted while driving has steep consequences, so please use care when you are traveling North Carolina highways.
